Short answer: where UK employers publish it, bike mechanic pay runs from about £25,000 to £40,000 a year for salaried roles, and £10.40 to £20 an hour for hourly ones. The bigger story is how rarely anyone says. Of the 14 mechanic and workshop roles we've tracked since December 2025, only 5 published a figure.
Hourly and annual figures are shown exactly as advertised. We don't convert one into the other, because hours, overtime and seasonal patterns vary too much to do it honestly.
The other nine roles came without a figure: four workshop roles at Balfe's Bikes (mechanic, senior mechanic, workshop manager and warehouse bike builder), plus roles at Condor Cycles, Hunt Bike Wheels, Trek, MTB Monster and Tweed Valley Bikes. That includes senior and management roles, which is exactly where a published range would help people decide whether a move is worth it.
The published range tracks responsibility. The top of it belongs to a role that combines head mechanic duties with running a hire operation, and the experienced technician and part-time mechanic roles sit in the mid-£20,000s to low-£30,000s. With five data points, treat these as real examples rather than a market average. The picture gets sharper every month as more roles come through.
Every current role is on the retail and workshop jobs page, with the salary shown wherever the employer states one. For hourly rates across the wider industry, see hourly pay in UK cycling jobs.
This guide uses UK mechanic and workshop roles Jobs in Cycling has tracked on employers' own careers pages since December 2025, live or closed. The same role at the same employer counts once. "Published pay" means a figure appeared in the employer's own listing, so "competitive" or "DOE" on its own doesn't count. Updated monthly alongside our Signals report.
