Sport Developer – East Midlands Region

This permanent role leads the delivery of British Cycling’s sporting pathway across the East Midlands. The position focuses on growing participation, strengthening clubs and events, and supporting volunteers, with a strong emphasis on inclusion, access, and long-term rider development.

You’ll work as part of British Cycling’s regional sport development team, collaborating closely with clubs, volunteers, event organisers, and national colleagues to embed best practice and drive sustainable growth across all cycling disciplines.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and coordinating regional sporting pathway activity across all cycling disciplines
  • Supporting and growing affiliated clubs, with a focus on women, girls, and young people
  • Developing and sustaining a strong calendar of registered cycle sport events
  • Providing guidance, tools, and ongoing support to clubs and event organisers
  • Using data and insight to improve event capacity, quality, and racing opportunities
  • Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers across the regional network
  • Facilitating forums, workshops, and networking events to share best practice
  • Promoting volunteer recognition, progression, and retention
  • Supporting rider development through strong pathway activity
  • Representing British Cycling as a regional ambassador

Occasional evening and weekend work is required, alongside travel across the East Midlands and to national locations.

What you’ll need

  • Experience in sports development, ideally within an NGB or volunteer-led environment
  • Proven experience in club and/or event development with evidence of growing participation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across the region

Desirable

  • Knowledge of regional cycle sport structures and governance
  • Experience supporting volunteers and coordinating regional delivery
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A genuine passion for cycling and commitment to British Cycling’s values
