This flexible Project Officer role supports the delivery of walking, wheeling, and cycling initiatives that help communities become more active and connected. The position focuses on community engagement, behaviour change, and practical project delivery, working across a range of programmes where support is needed most.
You’ll be part of the Active Journeys team, collaborating with colleagues across infrastructure, community, and network teams, as well as volunteers, schools, local authorities, and other partners.
What you’ll be doing
- Planning and delivering a range of walking, wheeling, and cycling projects
- Working independently on smaller projects or as part of larger, multi-disciplinary teams
- Actively involving volunteers, including recruitment, training, and ongoing support
- Engaging with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout project delivery
- Delivering activity in community settings, such as schools, neighbourhoods, and public spaces
- Supporting initiatives including guided walks, school engagement, bike maintenance sessions, and co-design work
- Adapting to different projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
This is a community-facing role that involves regular travel to project locations.
What you’ll need
- Experience managing small projects or delivering defined work packages
- At least 3 years’ experience working with schools and/or community groups (paid or voluntary)
- Strong understanding of active travel and barriers faced by communities experiencing inequality
- Knowledge of behaviour change theories and practical tools
- Confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders
- Flexibility to travel as required to deliver projects
