About Cycle North

Cycle North delivers Bikeability cycle training across West Yorkshire, working primarily with primary school children and adult learners in Leeds, Wakefield, and Kirklees. The organisation trains instructors to National Standard and operates across school term time, with additional adult sessions in evenings and weekends.

The Role

Cycling Instructors deliver on-road Bikeability training to children aged 9–12 in primary schools across the Leeds, Wakefield, and Kirklees areas. The role involves three days per week during term time (around 18.5 hours), with reduced activity over December, January, and school holidays. There is an initial 3–6 month probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Bikeability Level 1 and 2 cycle training to primary school children on local roads
  • Plan and adapt sessions to suit group ability and road conditions
  • Complete required pre-course online learning modules before the training course
  • Attend a three-day practical instructor training course (5–7 May, Leeds)
  • Maintain records and follow safeguarding procedures
  • Deliver adult cycle training sessions in evenings or weekends where required (Wakefield)

What you'll need

  • Confident, competent cyclist able to ride safely on public roads
  • Comfortable working with children aged 9–12 in a school environment
  • Ability to reliably commute across Yorkshire (on-road role, no fixed base)
  • A-Level or equivalent qualification
  • Clear DBS check (required — arranged on appointment)
  • 1 year's teaching or coaching experience (preferred)
